Call for Papers

The transformation of today’s electricity grids into smart grids has been widely hailed as a key for sustainable growth of wealth around the globe. The trend to smarter grids comes at a time in which information and communication technologies have revolutionized personal communications and turned wireless communications into a commodity. It is thus no coincidence that communications technology is ready to and will play an essential role in the implementation of smart grids. However, it is by no means obvious which communication technologies will be integrated into electricity grids and in what way. Communication systems need to be seen as part of a larger system of systems, including in particular energy, control, and information processing systems. This overlap of disciplines is part of the specific challenge and appeal of smart grid communications research and development.

The 4th IEEE International Conference on Smart Grid Communications (SmartGridComm 2013) will provide a forum to discuss all aspects that are relevant to smart grid communication technologies and bring together researchers and practitioners from academia, industry, and government institutions, with backgrounds in communication, energy, control, and information systems to exchange ideas, explore enabling technologies, discuss innovative designs, and share field trial experiences and lessons learned.

Prospective authors are invited to submit original contributions (standard two-column IEEE format, up to six pages) to EDAS (http://www.edas.info/ under the track “SmartGridComm2013”) on all aspects of smart grid communications, including but not limited to:

Architectures and Models for the Smart Grid
Cyber-Physical Wide-Area Monitoring, Protection & Control (Cyber-Physical WAMPAC)
The Whole Picture - Sense, Communicate, Compute, Control
Smart Grid Cyber Security and Privacy
Support for Storage, Renewable Resources and Micro-grids
Demand Side Management, Demand Response, Dynamic Pricing
Communications and Networks for Smart Grids and Smart Metering
Smart Grid Services and Management Models
Smart Grid Standards, Co-simulation, Test-beds, and Field Trials
Important dates

Paper Submission Deadline: May 5, 2013
Notification of Acceptance: July 15, 2013
Camera-ready paper due: August 4, 2013
Author registration due: August 4, 2013

To be published in the IEEE Smart Grid Communications Conference Proceedings and IEEE Xplore®, an author of an accepted paper is required to register for the conference at the full or limited (member or non-member) rate and the paper must be presented by an author of that paper at the conference unless the TPC Co-Chairs grant permission for a substitute presenter.
