Call For Papers

Capillaroscopy investigation constitutes a reliable non-invasive diagnostic tool to view peripheral circulation and to study microangiopathies, considered as manifestations of numerous diseases. Videocapillaroscopy was originally applied in the periungual nailfold, in the distal ends of upper and lower limbs, and later in the skin, conjunctiva and different mucosae. It found useful applications since the '80s in rheumatology, dermatology, ophthalmology and disease-specific areas of medicine such as diabetology.

The clinical significance interpretation of these microphotographs is subjective and needs years of training. Vice versa, modern computer imaging techniques allow both qualitative and quantitative analysis of morphological and densitometric characteristics of the microvascular bed. The purpose of this special track is attracting a valid representation of the digital image analysis community and providing a forum to discuss on the latest advancements in computer-assisted environments to support physicians during capillaroscopic examinations.

Prospective authors are solicited to submit complete and original, unpublished contributions which must not be under review elsewhere. Possible topics may include, but are not limited to:

Detection of regions of interest in capillaroscopic images

Feature extraction and measurement of capillaries

Three-dimensional capillaries reconstruction

Spatio-temporal analysis of videocapillaroscopic movies

Managing real and simulated capillaroscopic image databases

Real time clinical applications for capillaroscopic examinations

Early diagnosis, monitoring and follow up applications for capillaroscopic examinations
For paper preparation and submission instructions please refer to the guidelines on the general CBMS site. Submission of a contribution implies acceptance that at least one of the authors will register and present the paper at the special track. All papers will be peer-reviewed by at least three independent referees and the proceedings, indexed also by Scopus, will be published by IEEE. Authors of best papers will be invited to submit extended versions for a special issue of a proper journal, still to be chosen for the whole CBMS event.
