Call For Papers

The Journal of Interactive Humanities is a new peer-reviewed, open access journal that provides an important forum for the development of new methods of outreach and scholarship within the digital humanities, such as interactive games and media for museums, digitized collections, cultural heritage preservation, and interactive narrative.

The humanities have begun to embrace digital technology as a means of expressing scholarship and thought. However, it has become apparent that humanities content cannot simply be transferred into these new media. The humanities may be making the mistake it has observed of other fields: “Part of the problem seems to lie in our faith that somehow technology itself, like miraculous new medical equipment for seeing inside the human body, will solve our problems…” (Tuman, Myron C. Word Perfect: Literacy in the Computer Age. Univ of Pittsburgh Press, 1992.) This journal seeks to focus on the development of humanities specific content for interactive design and digital technology. Submission of articles from academics and practitioners is encouraged.

Inclusive of
- Researchers/academics in disciplinary and interdisciplinary fields: museum studies, history, English, anthropology, performing arts, art history and etc.
- Curators
- Educators
- Exhibition Designers
- Museum IT personnel
- Serious game researchers
- Public historians
- Practitioners of the Digital Humanities
- Interdisciplinary and Multidisciplinary projects/ presentations/papers
- Notes from the Field: use of case studies and letters from practitioners

In an effort to bring new research findings to our readers, we are committed to keeping the publication process (receipt, review, revision and publication) to a bi-annual cycle.

Submission deadline

Publication Dates

JIH is always accepting reviews of interactive exhibits and installations. Audio, video, flash and interactive media content is accepted.

Articles of 1,500 words or greater should be submitted to the Co-Editors-in-Chief in Word format, double-spaced, and use the IEEE citation style consistently throughout, by registering at http://library.rit.edu/oajournals/index.php/JIH/. All submissions will receive editor review before a determination is made to begin the peer review process.

JIH supports the Open Access Movement, which aims to make research free and available to the public online. Open Access to JIH plays a crucial role in furthering humanities research, benefiting scholars, research and the public at large. Open access can increase a journal’s readership as well as its contribution to the public good on a global scale.
