CONFERENCES and SEMINARS | EXHIBITION | CALL FOR PROPOSALS

The Research Centre on Communication and Languages (CECL) of the NOVA University of Lisbon, Portugal, is taking part of an ambitious program on CULTURAL TECHNOLOGIES AND MEDIA ARTS | in Memoriam to Friedrich Kittler, in association with the Goethe-Institut in Lisbon and Fórum Eugénio de Almeida in Évora, Portugal.

We are organizing a series of conferences with Peter Weibel (ZKM, Karlsruhe), Bernhard Siegert (IKKM, Weimar), Bernard Stiegler (IRI, Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris), and Sybille Krämer (Freie Universität Berlin) as invited keynote speakers.

Associated to the conferences, the organization will present an exhibition with an exceptional selection of media art works from the collection of ZKM | Media Museum, «IN[TER]INVENTIONS», curated by Claudia Giannetti and Peter Weibel. This exhibition will take place at the Forum Eugénio de Almeida in Évora, a historical city near Lisbon, and will display significant works by Nam June Paik, Bruce Naumann, Marina Abramovic, Bill Viola, Christa Sommerer & Laurent Mignonneau, Paul Sermon, Tony Oursler, Peter Weibel, Masaki Fujihata, Valie Export, Pipilotti Rist, Paul Garrin, Robert Wilson, among others.


Participants in the conference will have free transportation for the ZKM exhibition. Hotel reservations can be arranged upon request.

We welcome proposals for the conference on November 28th, held at NOVA University of Lisbon, that address the general subject of «CULTURAL TECHNOLOGIES AND MEDIA ARTS», and also that focus on the work and thought of Friedrich Kittler (1943–2011), the renowned theorist in media history and media aesthetics.

Deadline for the submission of proposals: November 1st, 2013

Submission of proposals: please send a 400 words abstract and a short bio to info@cecl.com.pt
We will notify you about the acceptance of your proposal until November 5th 2013.

The Participation Fee for joining our conference is 80€.
