AE . Architecture and Education Journal: CALL FOR PAPERS

AE . Architecture and Education Journal is an International Journal published by the Architectural research center LabART and by the Department of Architecture of Lusófona University of Lisbon. The journal is annual and publishes research papers, conferences and seminar communications, book reviews, and research work from master dissertations and PhD thesis.

For the forthcoming thematic issue we would like to invite contributions focused on the subject: FOR WHAT, ARCHITECTURE IN A DIGITAL WORLD?

While for a long, yet recent period, and at least since the rise of the "post-modern" era, architecture has been constantly questioning and redefining its own limits, its borders, we would like to go back to the discuss the contemporaneity of architecture in itself.

What is Architecture today in a World were all the the design and production is mediated by digital media tolls? What for? What is its purpose? What changes in architectural design? What changes in the profession? What changes in architectural education?

We would like to investigate the inner strength of the discipline, its intrinsic and unique value and meaning in the contemporary world.

Possible fields of investigation could be:

Architectural design and architecture as construction, as built meaningful form within a globalized and mediated, yet idiosyncratic, world.
The influences of the technological processes which have transformed deeply the discipline itself and the profession. The digital dependence of organizing and evaluating design criteria, the ever more present capacity to simulate un-built realities.
Architecture in the academia, for what world do institutions want to prepare future architects? How do we want, as academics, to evaluate the practice? How do we imagine our built world in the future, and what is the role of architecture in that vision?
