Dear colleagues,
the Research Association of Composition and Music Theory Students at the Karol Lipiński Academy of Music in Wrocław is honored to invite you to the 2nd International Students' Scientific Conference The Sound Ambiguity which will take place on April 23rd - 24th, 2015 at the Karol Lipiński Academy of Music in Wrocław under the honorary patronage of the Rector, prof. dr hab. Krystian Kiełb. The previous edition of the conference aroused interest of many young researchers from Poland and other countries, including the United Kingdom, Belgium and Bulgaria. The Sound Ambiguity remains the theme of the forthcoming meeting. Sound can be found almost everywhere. It has been interpreted in various ways in the literature on the subject. Regardless of researchers' methodological attitudes, everyone writing on the matter agrees with the fact that it is a phenomenon that raises a lot of questions: what can be described as sound? What makes up its essence? Can it express anything? Is it possible to record it or write it down? How does sound affect humans? The aim of this year's conference is to take up the discussion about the ambiguity of sound in the field of music, as well as in a wider context: in language, culture, technology and other disciplines. The conference is aimed at music theory and musicology students, as well as students from other scientific disciplines. The participation in the Conference is free of charge. The organisers are prepared to offer participants assistance in finding and booking affordable accommodation near the Academy of Music in Wrocław. The organisers do not cover the costs of transportation or accommodation. Individuals interested in taking part in the Conference are asked to submit an application form (available at ambiguity.amuz.wroc.pl) by no later than February 10th, 2015. Please send the applications to kolo1@amuz.wroc.pl. Participants must be aware that the presentation is not to exceed 20 minutes. The paper may be delivered either in English or in Polish. The organisers reserve the right to accept only a selection of the submitted papers. A submission is considered tantamount to permission for the publication of its abstract at ambiguity.amuz.wroc.pl, in the event that the submission is accepted. Accompanying events are also planned to enhance the Conference – a concert of contemporary music, an exhibition of fine arts and special events relating to the soundscape of Wrocław. We hope the subject of this Conference will be inspiring to students of music theory, musicology, and to students of other scientific disciplines. We believe that our initiative will help promote the integration of artistic and scientific students' communities. Sincerely, Tutor of the Research Association of Composition and Music Theory Students mgr Adam Porębski Head of the Chair of Music Theory and History of Silesian Music Culture prof. dr hab.
