The Association of Philosophy and Liberation (AFYL / Mexico)
CALL FOR PAPERS The Mexican Chapter of The Association of Philosophy and Liberation (AFYL / Mexico) is now accepting submissions for the Philosophy of Liberation Symposium: "Decolonial Alternatives from the South”. Our symposium will be hosted by the XVIII International Conference of Philosophy: Plurality, Justice, and Peace, organized by the Philosophical Association of Mexico (AFM) in the City of San Cristobal de Las Casas, Chiapas, from 24th to 28th of October, 2016. AFYL / Mexico, an organization chaired by Professor Enrique Dussel, cordially extends an invitation to the Philosophy of Liberation Symposium: "Decolonial Alternatives from the South.” We welcome anyone, in Mexico and abroad, interested in having a creative and rigorous dialogue on the Latin American tradition known as Philosophy of Liberation. This philosophical tradition originated in Argentina in the late ‘60s through the collaboration of a diverse group of intellectuals who decided to take a critical and oppositional stance in philosophy, and politics, to confront the dominant ideology of that historic time. In this occasion, our symposium will be held in Chiapas. This Southern state is an extremely significant place given its history of liberation, which, since the resistance against the Spanish invasion, has demanded the establishment of a more just and dignified world for all. In this place of enunciation, it is necessary— through the creative articulation with other disciplines and knowledges— to find and develop relevant philosophical categories to diagnose the evils of the era in which we live. Thus, our Symposium aims to think through anticapitalist and decolonial strategic alternatives originated in the global South from new interpretations of the different cultural traditions of the world. This meeting is expected to be, then, an open and plural forum for an uncompromising discussion of the fundamental problems that critical thinking faces today in its organic connection with the historical praxis of the people and oppressed groups. Topics of interest: Chiapas, Zapatismo and ways of liberation Political philosophy and liberation Aesthetics and liberation Intercultural and indigenous people’s Philosophy Decolonial turn / Modernity-transmodernity Feminism, gender and sexuality dissidents Economy, capitalism and liberation Social movements and Latin American geopolitics Ecology and liberation Submissions Abstract should clearly state the main points of the argument to be presented. They should be written in Spanish and have a maximum length of 250 words. In order to submit your abstract, complete the registration form available at: http://afm.org.mx/congreso-2016/solicitud-de-registro/. Please make sure you correctly send your submission by choosing “Filosofía de la liberación” on the Coloquio window. The deadline for submissions is April 3, 2016. After a review process, letters of acceptance will be sent during the month of May. Priority will be given to submissions that propose creative and innovative treatments of philosophy of liberation by clarifying the major current problems. For participants not fluent in Spanish, the papers may be presented in English. However, in this circumstance, prior to the presentation, the author should provide the audience with a two-page summary of the essay in Spanish.
