Call For Papers

The International BCS Human-Computer Interaction Conference is a vibrant and established multidisciplinary HCI conference in its 37th year. The 2024 conference will be hosted by the University of Central Lancashire in Preston, UK on 15-17th July.

We welcome submissions that report original work that addresses areas relevant to HCI research and UX practice (see Areas of Interest listed below for examples).

The types of papers accepted are:
• Full Papers up to 10 pages excluding references in eWiC format.
• Short Papers up to 5 pages excluding references in eWiC format.

Calls for workshops, posters, interactions gallery, design research competition, late breaking papers and doctorial consortium will be announced shortly.

The papers submission deadline is Thursday 28th March 2024 (Midnight in Anywhere on Earth).

Papers should be anonymised and be formatted using the eWiC format. Authors should consult the eWiC Authors’ guidelines and use their templates, either for LaTeX or for Word, to prepare their papers. See the conference web site for submission details and further information (https://bcshci.org/call-for-papers/).

All accepted papers must be presented verbally at the conference by a registered attendee and will be published in the eWiC collection. The best long and short papers from the conference will be invited to submit to a special issue of the Interacting with Computers journal.

• Affective computing, digital empathy, empathic design and emotional HCI.
• Interaction and design for accessibility.
• Visual analytics, information presentation and visualisation.
• Ethnographic studies in human computer interaction.

Human-centred AI including:
• Human-AI Interaction.
• Interactive machine learning.
• User-centred approaches to explainable AI.
• User studies of novel AI-driven systems.

Education and Health including:
• eHealth, digital healthcare studies and usability of medical devices.
• Assistive technology.
• Interaction in education.
• Usability and design of eLearning, educational tools and platforms.
• Child-computer interaction studies.

Smart Energy, Smart Transport and the Internet of Things:
• User-centric approaches to sustainability and smart energy.
• Interacting with self-driving vehicles and smart transport systems.
• Interactive Internet of Things.

Interaction Technologies and Applications:
• Interfaces for sound, audio and music.
• Eye tracking and psycho-physiological studies.
• Computer-supported cooperative work.
• Human-robot interaction
• Wearable technologies.
• Interface and interaction design for games/gaming.
