Call For Papers

The Department of Celtic Studies at the Institute of English, The John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin (KUL) in collaboration with the Department of Anglo-Irish Literature at the Institute of English, Maria Curie-Skłodowska University (UMCS), and The State Higher School of Vocational Education in Zamość (PWSZ) are pleased to invite scholars and researchers to submit paper proposals in Celtic studies:


AREAS OF RESEARCH:
We wish to encourage researchers to present papers on the following areas connected with Celtic studies:

literature, linguistics, culture, history, translation, Celtic language teaching

Papers on other subjects relating to Celtic themes are also welcome.


ABSTRACT SUBMISSION:
Abstracts of no more than 300 words (excluding reference) should be submitted by April 30th, 2014 in .doc or .pdf format to the e-mail address: celtic.days.conference@gmail.com. Please, include the following information in the body of the e-mail:

•the title of the paper
•the name of the author
•affiliation
•research area

Since abstracts will be reviewed anonymously, your name should not be included in the abstract file itself. The papers should be prepared so as to give a 20-minute talk followed by a 10-minute discussion.

CONFERENCE FEE:
250 PLN (60 EUR) includes conference materials, publication, accommodation and breakfast, dinners and refreshments


DATE & VENUE:
The conference will be held on June 13th-15th, 2014 in the renaissance city of Zamość at The State Higher School of Vocational Education facilities.


PROCEEDINGS:
The deadline for submission of complete papers is August 31st, 2014. The papers will be assessed by independent reviewers and, if accepted, published in the Eastern Borders of Celtic Identity volume.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
The conference is an integral part of the annual cultural-academic event which has been held by the Institute of English, The John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin and supported by Polish-Irish Society and the Embassy of Ireland in Poland since 2002. So far, the Celtic Days have comprised a number of scientific and popular-scientific talks, workshops, presentations and lectures. It has been an opportunity to host a number of scholars (Prof. Norman Davies, Prof. M. Wynn Thomas, Prof. Sabine Asmus, Prof. Andrzej Kokowski, dr Christine Jones), writers (Grahame Davies, Ifor ap Glyn, Angharad Tomos, Rhys Trimble) and musicians (David Greenslade, Jim Rowlands, Gwilym Morus, Dafydd Iwan) from Celtic countries.
The Department of Celtic Studies at KUL was founded by Professor Edmund Gussmann in 1989, the first in Eastern Europe and has been the sole organiser of the Celtic Days for twelve years. This edition will be the thirteenth held by the Department of Celtic Studies and the first held in collaboration with other institutes.
