'The Inaugural Anne Lister Conference; women, gender and sexuality in the 19th Century'.
A Call for Papers for 'The Anne Lister Conference; women, gender and sexuality in the 19th Century'. A half-day conference to be held on the 28th June as part of a wider weekend dedicated to celebrating the life and legacy of the renowned Anne Lister; 19th century diarist, landowner, explorer and lesbian icon. Confirmed speakers include the author, and biographer of Anne Lister, Helena Whitbread, Dr. Caroline Baylis-Green who shall be speaking about the construction of Gothicised, female queerness in the nineteenth century, and Dr. Sarah Holland who shall be spaking about the visible and hidden histories of rural women in the West Riding of Yorkshire in the nineteenth century. We invite 300-word abstracts (for 20-minute-long papers) on any topic relating to Anne Lister; this includes topics as diverse as nineteenth century explorers, womens studies, gender studies, sexuality in history and other related topics (papers need not relate specifically to Anne Lister, only topics relevant to her life and times). Graduate submissions welcome.
