Call For Papers

Workshop on Computational Intelligence in Ambient Assisted Living Systems (CIAALS-18)
In conjunction with The 9th International Conference on Ambient Systems, Networks and Technologies
May 8-11, 2018, Porto, Portugal

The 1st International Workshop on Workshop on Computational Intelligence in Ambient Assisted Living Systems (CIAALS-18) provides an international forum on the latest technologies and research on Computational Intelligence methods applied in Ambient Assisted Living Environments, Platforms and Systems. CIAALS-18 will be held on May 8-11, 2018 in Porto, Portugal in conjunction with the 6th International Conference on Ambient Systems, Networks, and Technologies (ANT-2018).

Scope

Ambient Assisted Living (AAL) is an emerging multi-disciplinary field aiming at exploiting information and communication technologies in personal healthcare and telehealth systems and networks for improving the life of elderly, disabled and cognitively impaired people. AAL uses sensing technology embedded in objects, or in the environment or worn on the person to promote health and enhance well-being, or to help maintain an independent life at home and other context-aware environments. The data gathered by sensors is analysed to detect activity and infer knowledge about the physical, cognitive, or affective state of the person, recognising and classifying patterns, detecting trends and unusual or anomalous behaviour. Computational Intelligence and its algorithms, including nature-inspired methods, neural networks and swarm intelligence, have become effective in recent years in solving a diverse range of optimization and scheduling problems in AAL applications. Combination of computational intelligence methods with advanced software engineering technologies is crucial for handling a big amount of data of various types and origins and making AAL systems work efficiently. This workshop aims at bringing together international researchers and practitioners from different disciplines in order to provide a platform for presenting state-of-the-art developments in this area, to discuss recent advances and to exchange ideas on the current state of the art of Computational Intelligence methods and algorithms applied for AAL. Authors are invited to submit unpublished work, contributing with research papers, case studies and applications that present original scientific results, methodological aspects, concepts and approaches.

Submission and Paper Format

All papers will be subjected to a “double-blind review” by at least two/three members of the Program Committee. Based on Program Committee evaluation, a paper can be rejected or accepted by the Conference Chairs.
Formatting instructions and templates will available at http://cs-conferences.acadiau.ca/ant-18/#paperSubmissions.
Maximum number of pages is 8.
All papers should be submitted using the EasyChair system at the following page: https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=ciaals2018

Publication and Indexing

All ANT-2018 accepted papers (thus including the CIAALS-2018 papers) will be published by Elsevier Science in the open-access Procedia Computer Science series on-line. Procedia Computer Sciences is hosted on www.Elsevier.com and on Elsevier content platform ScienceDirect (www.sciencedirect.com), and will be freely available worldwide. All papers in Procedia will be indexed by Scopus (www.scopus.com) and by Thomson Reuters' Conference Proceeding Citation Index http://thomsonreuters.com/conference-proceedings-citation-index/. The papers will contain linked references, XML versions and citable DOI numbers. You will be able to provide a hyperlink to all delegates and direct your conference website visitors to your proceedings. All accepted papers will also be indexed in DBLP (http://dblp.uni-trier.de/). Selected papers will be invited for publication in special issues of international journals.
The extended versions of the best papers accepted and presented at this workshop will be invited for publication in a Special Issue of Information Technology and Control journal indexed by Clarivate Analytics Web of Science (IF = 0.475).
