Call For Papers

NEW EXTENDED DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSIONS: 25th April 2016

OpenLivingLab Days 2016 brings together both academics and managers from fields of innovation and fields applying Living Labs and Living Laboratories to explore the benefits Living Labs provide for a variety of stakeholders. The 4th edition of the Living Lab Research Day at the OpenLivingLab Days conference is an opportunity for researchers and practitioners to:
- Bring together a state-of-the-art review of Living Lab concepts and their usage both for managers and scholars
- Strengthen Living Labs as an area of innovation
- Assess new trends, current challenges and developments of Living Labs in collaboration with a large network of researchers and practitioners
- Co-create new disruptive innovation models
- Establish strong connections with other emerging disciplines in order to develop collaborations for future research, innovation projects and initiatives.

The submitted papers can focus on, without being limited to, the following topics:
- Theoretical insights from Living Lab research. Frameworks and paradigms for Living Labs
- Impact of Living Labs: frameworks, measurement, best practice cases
- Scales and instruments for the measurement of Living Lab benefits
- Living Labs & new social and technological paradigms
- Management and orchestration of Living Labs and Living Lab networks
- Innovation and process drivers in Living Labs
- Living Labs for social innovation
- Citizen Design Science and Living Labs
- Open Innovation 2.0
- Tools and methodologies for Living Labs
- User innovation & Lead Users in Living Labs
- Big data, data visualisation and Living Labs
- International Property Right issues with users in Living Labs
- Openness and closeness in Living Lab networks
- Living Labs in relation to other kind of collective innovation spaces (makerspaces, hackerspaces, Fab Labs, co-creation spaces or co-working spaces…) and tech Innovation ecosystems in cities
- Innovation paradoxes in Living Labs
- Entrepreneurship and business models in Living Labs
- Policies, territorial innovation and Living Labs
- Living Labs domain specific cases (health, education, culture, environment, energy, food, logistics, mobility etc.) including failed Living Labs cases or initiatives
- Living Labs & Smart Cities
- Urban Living Labs and their contribution to developing Future Internet enabled services in Smart Cities



Accepted contributions will be published in the proceedings of OpenLivingLab Days 2016 with an ISBN number.

Format for full papers for OpenLivingLab Days:
- Please submit your paper in .doc (Word Document) or .odt (Open Document/OpenOffice) format.
- Indicate if your submission has been previously published elsewhere. This is to ensure that we do not infringe upon another publisher’s copyright policy.
- Include a 1-paragraph abstract that provides the key messages you will be presenting in the paper
- Include 3-5 keywords relating to the theme or topics covered by the paper
- Provide a 2-3 paragraph conclusion that summarizes the article’s main points and leaves the reader with the most important messages
- Include a 75-150 word biography of the author(s) & photo
- The paper length should be between 2000 and 5000 words maximum
- References should be made according to APA-style and included at the end of the paper in alphabetical order
- All papers must be submitted in English

Submitting papers: Please submit your full final paper to info@enoll.org with “Paper Submission for OpenLL16” as the email title by the new extended deadline of Monday the 25thth of April 2016.

Submitted papers will be reviewed by referees assigned by the Scientific Steering Committee for acceptance or rejection. The Scientific Steering Committee is chaired by Professor Pieter Ballon, Director Living Living Labs at iMinds, Belgium, & International Secretary of the European Network of Living Labs. Papers submitted to OpenLivingLab Days 2016 will be evaluated on their appropriateness of theme for the conference, innovativeness, scientific quality and the final recommendation of the Scientific Steering Committee.

By submitting your paper, you are hereby authorizing ENoLL to publish your paper in the OpenLivingLab Days 2016 proceedings which will be part of the Research Day of OpenLivingLab Days in Montreal, Canada on Tuesday the 23rd of August 2016.

Collaboration with the TIM Review:

For the first time this year, ENoLL is pleased to announce its collaboration with the Technology Innovation Management Review (TIM Review) in order to offer the best papers submitted to OpenLivingLab Days 2016 the opportunity to be published in a special TIM Review dedicated to Living Labs.

The TIM Review is a free monthly publication providing quality and insightful content regarding the issues and emerging trends that are relevant to launching and growing technology businesses, and it focuses on the theories, strategies, and tools that help companies succeed. The TIM Review regularly publishes articles and research on Living Labs and this collaboration sees ENoLL and TIM come together for the first time to produce a Special Issue of the TIM Review on Living Labs due for publication in December 2016.

The guest editors of the Special Issue on Living Labs are Adjunct Prof. Seppo Leminen, Dr. Dimitri Schuurman, Prof. Mika Westerlund, Prof. Pieter Ballon. Along with Chris McPhee, Editor-in-Chief of the TIM Review, the guest editors will select papers for the special issue from among the conference papers.

Schedule

Interested authors should note the following timetable of deadlines for the conference:
8th December 2015 = Submissions for papers open
25 April 2016 = Deadline for full paper submission
20 May 2016 = Acceptance Notification
23 August 2016 = Research Day at OpenLivingLab Days 2016 in Montreal

Additional deadlines for those papers selected for the TIM Review:
15 September 2016 = Invitations to submit full papers to Technology Innovation Management Review
1 October 2016 = Deadline to submit the revised version
15 October 2016 = Preliminary acceptance/rejection
15 November 2016 = Final acceptance of paper
15 December 2016 = Publish papers in Technology Innovation Management Review

Veli-Pekka Niitamo Prize

The Veli-Pekka Niitamo Prize for best academic contribution for OpenLivingLab Days has been established in memory of Veli-Pekka ‘Vellu’ Niitamo, the Father of the Living Lab movement, long standing member of the ENoLL Council, and one of the founding members of the ENoLL Association.

This prize will be given the best paper presented at the Research Day during the proceedings of OpenLivingLab Days.

Veli-Pekka Niitamo was a member of ENoLL Council for many years and as one of the founding members of the association, contributing actively to ENoLL meetings and policy work. He passed away in December 2012 and this prize has been set up in memory of the great work he did and the contributions he made.
