Call For Papers
The IEEE WiMob 2014 Workshop on Future Trends in Wireless and Mobile Software Defined Networks (WiMob-SDN)
In conjunction with the 10th IEEE International Conference on Wireless and Mobile Computing, Networking and Communications (WiMob 2014), Larnaca, Cyprus, October 8-11, 2014.

Paper submission deadline: July 15, 2014 (extended deadline)

The exponential growth in mobile devices and their continuously enhanced capabilities, the inherent need to simultaneously operate over multiple heterogeneous wireless technologies, and the rapidly evolving mobile services market pose significant challenges for wireless and mobile networks. To undertake these challenges, radio devices require more flexibility. The first approach to achieve this flexibility was Software Defined Radio (SDR), in which almost all functions of the transmission plane (mixers, filters, amplifiers, modulators, demodulators, detectors, etc.) are decoupled from the hardware and implemented by software. However, it is possible to go a step further- especially regarding the base stations, access points and wireless sensor proxies or agents- by decoupling also their transmission and control planes. In this scenario, a common control plane shared by radio devices is deployed by software in a centralized server, having a global view of the radio network. This solution is known as Software Defined Wireless Networks (SDWN), which is in fact an adaptation of the Software Defined Networking (SDN) concept but applied to the wireless site of the network. The Open Networking Foundation, an organization dedicated to the promotion of SDN through open standards development, includes Wireless & Mobile as a working group, that we simply denote as WiMob-SDN. This working group is making efforts to efficiently and intelligently manage the heterogeneity of Wireless and Mobile networks. However, its goals and milestones are in a preliminary state and it needs further development.

The International Workshop of Future Trends in Wireless and Mobile SDN encourages authors to send their papers describing original and unpublished research work in the key and growing technical area of WiMob-SDN. Papers describing advanced prototypes, platforms and general survey for discussing emerging issues and main directions are also encouraged. Topics include (but are not limited to) WiMob-SDN based solutions for:

-Dynamic Resource management for WiMob backhaul;
-Mobile traffic management;
-Management of secure flows in WiMob backhaul;
-Media-independent handover;
-Network-aware user equipment multiple radio interface management;
-Energy efficiency in WiMob backhaul;
-Unified heterogeneous equipment management and control;
-Network based mobility management;
-Mobility management in LTE;
-Development tools for WiMob-SDN;
-IEEE OmniRAN;
-Software Defined Wireless Sensor Networks

AUTHOR GUIDELINES
High-quality full papers which at the time of submission, are not under review and have not already been published or accepted for publication elsewhere are solicited. The first page should include the paper's title, the abstract, a list of keywords indicating the paper's topic area(s), the authors' full names, affiliations, and e-mail addresses. All accepted papers will be published in the conference proceedings and by the IEEE, and will be accessible via IEEE Xplore Digital Library. Authors are required to submit fully formatted papers (PDF), with graphs, images, and other special areas arranged as intended for the final publication. Papers should be written in English conforming to the IEEE standard conference format (8.5" x 11" - US letter, Two-Column). The final manuscript for publication will be limited to 6 IEEE pages. Your paper must be printable in order to be accepted and should be submitted through the workshop EDAS page: http://edas.info/N17935.
