Call for Papers: Innovative Approaches in Architecture and Urban Planning

ICONARCH – II International Congress of Architecture and Planning

ICONARCH - II International Congress of Architecture will be held at Selcuk University on 20th – 22nd November 2014. This event will serve as a meeting point for scholars from the fields of architecture and planning to discuss their research with others in a friendly and pleasant environment. ICONARCH - II offers three days packed with presentations from a large number of researchers as well as keynote presentations from leading academics. The congress offers an opportunity to form networks with other researchers in your field.


The call for papers is now open. We welcome papers from all areas of architecture and urban planning and from PhD students at any stage of their research. Speakers will be allocated to sessions according to the themes. The invitation is restricted to congress themes:


1. Innovative Technologies for Sustainability

Renewable Energy Sources , Eco-technology, Bio-Architecture and Cities, Urban Ecology, Climate Change and Sustainability, Smarth Growth, Sustainable Urban Tourism.


2. Innovations in Making Place: Process and Actors

Globalization and Socio –Spatial Development, New Meanings of Place, Locality and Identity, Methods for Mediation and Participation, The Role and Limits of Architects and Planners, Understanding Social Networks for Architecture and Planning, Ethics and Values.


3. Innovative Approaches in Conservation and Cultural Heritage

Materials for Conservation and Restoration, Conservation and Documentation Technologies, Information Technologies in Conservation, Urban Tourism and Heritage.


4. New Approaches in Architecture and Urban Planning Education

Methods for Design Studios, Learning and Teaching Experiences, Team-Working Methods, Computer-Aided Design, Information Technologies, E-learning, Digital Teaching.


5. Innovations in Architectural and Urban Design Techniques

Computation Modelling, Design Management and Computation, Building Information Systems, Techniques for Spatial Analysis, Universal Design.


6. Transportation Infrastructure and Networks

Accesibility, Traffic Management, Infrastructure and Transport, Intelligent Systems, Governmental Policies, Alternative Transport Technologies and Models, Universal and Barrier-Free Design, Sustainable Transport Systems.


7. Innovative Building and Construction Systems and Materials

Acoustics, HVAC systems, Adaptive and Smart Systems, Thermal Comfort, Innovative Thermal Insulation Systems, Performance of Buildings, Facade Technology.


Papers will be selected based on merit and whether they fit within a theme of the congress (as based on those abstracts submitted). However, the organisers will seek to ensure that the selected papers reflect innovative approaches in architecture and planning.

We welcome jointly authored or presented papers. Such submissions ought clearly to state if all presenters intend to attend the congress.

Submission of a paper to ICONARCH II is warranted by the author that the paper has not been published or presented for any sciencitific activity or journal previously.


"Abstracts for individual papers and posters should be submitted electronically, by filling out the abstract submission form

The abstract of an oral presentation or poster should be 400 words maximum and include specific field of interest, issues addressed, methodology applied and results achieved or expected.

The maximum size for posters is 135 cm high and 94 cm wide. Please should not exceed this size."

Full papers will be assessed for publication in a special issue of ICONARP (International Journal of Architecture and Planning) http://www.iconarp.selcuk.edu.tr
