Workshop overview
-----------------
Telecommunication companies (Telcos) have become important players in big data analytics. Indeed many telcos have recently transformed themselves in the way they do business: Telcos are nowadays not only communication infrastructure providers but data-driven service providers in the digital space. As part of this digital transformation, significant efforts have been put into leveraging the massive volume of data collected from mobile phone devices to create new revenue streams while preserving privacy. This workshop will examine not only research but also new business opportunities offered by telco data, especially when combined with external data sources. This workshop aims at creating an industry-driven research momentum in the field of telco data-mining derived from human dynamics, both at aggregated and individual levels. This workshop will provide a unique platform for researchers to connect with telco R&Ds.

Industry panel: “The future of Telcos in the Big Data era”
----------------------------------------------------------
To conclude the workshop, an industry panel will discuss the challenges and opportunities of telcos in the Big Data era. The participants will include top management personalities from the telco industry.

Topics of interest
------------------
Contributions are sought in computational methods and applications using telco data, e.g. mobile network data, weblogs, digital TV and any other combinations involving telco data with external datasets. Also, research contributions examining privacy and trust issues are highly welcomed:

- Telco data mining
- mining of mobile network data (location based data and call detail records)
- mining of spatiotemporal data
- extraction of location semantics
- mobility data analysis
- integration and modeling of multi-source spatio and/or temporal data
- Privacy and trust
- privacy concerns, transparency and control
- capture the value of privacy
- customer engagement strategies
- User modelling and profiling
- human-centric activity recognition
- mining of social graphs
- spreading dynamics
- spatial human dynamics
- Applications
- premium targeted advertising
- data-driven market research
- telco data mining for the social good
- activity/location recommender systems
- social mobility and city planning

Submissions
-----------
Papers submitted to this workshop must not have been accepted for publication elsewhere or be under review for another workshop, conference or journal. Papers must be formatted to IEEE Computer Society proceedings manuscript style. For detailed formatting and submission guidelines please visit the ICDM website (http://icdm2014.sfu.ca/submission.html).

Workshop Proceedings
--------------------
Accepted papers will be included in the IEEE ICDM 2014 Workshops Proceedings volume published by IEEE Computer Society Press (also included in the IEEE Xplore Digital Library).
