Bucharest Conference in Applied Ethics 2014
5th Edition “Ethical Challenges in the New Business Environment” October 23-24, 2014 ♦ Bucharest, Romania The current economic and social crisis is generally considered a solid proof that ethics is rather optional for businessmen and companies than a normal way of doing business. The scandals that affected the banking sector since 2000, for example, have been taken as illustrating the loose moral standards in the business environment in general and many have accused a complicity between the business and public sectors. Others blamed a so-called “savage Capitalism” for providing the setting for unethical behaviour. The 5th edition of the Bucharest Conference in Applied Ethics aims to discuss all those ethical challenges posed by the new dynamics of the economic environment: from more strict legal regulations to self-regulation, from economic (make profit!) to social (be a good corporate citizen!) and environmental (save the planet!) constraints, from corruption to human rights protection etc. The 5th edition of the Bucharest Conference in Applied Ethics will bring together both academics and professionals from various disciplines and industries in order to explore the trends and propose new ways to think about the ethical limits of business. We invite submissions dealing with one or more of the following topics: ● Ethics in Business vs. Corporate Social Responsibility ● Legislating Ethics for Business Sector or Self-regulation? ● Economic vs. Environmental and Social Constraints in Business Environment ● Free-Competition and Corruption in Emerging Markets ● Human Rights in the Business Sector ● Responsible Sourcing ● Outsourcing and Its Ethical Challenges ● Moral Leadership in Business Organizations ● Ethical Communication and Mass-Media Industry ● Ethics and Marketing Practices A selection of the papers presented at the Bucharest Conference in Applied Ethics will be published in the “BCAE Proceedings”. Further details are available on our official website. Meanwhile, all abstracts will be published in the “BCAE Brief”, a series of booklets summarizing all BCAE presentations. Keynote Speakers The final list of keynote speakers will be published by the end of May 2014. Submissions and Registration Early submissions are highly encouraged. BCAE 2014 can host approximately 36 papers; given the experience of the previous 4 editions, the competition is very high.
