Aims, Scope and Topics

Networking is one of the key aspects in defining an IaaS System and one of the most complex resources to manage. In a Cloud infrastructure, multiple Virtual Machines share the same network hardware and the same geographic link. Moreover, the Cloud paradigm relies on the possibility to redefine the network according to the customer needs: security, performance, reliability, flexibility. Today we have several software components, both open-source and commercial, that offer several possibilities to virtualize multilayer switches and routers by using standard protocols.

Software Defined Networking (SDN) is an emerging paradigm that provides the decoupling of the control plane, which is the “intelligence” of the network, from the forwarding or data plane. It introduces a layer of interoperability that is a starting point for the deployment of future services. Today all the main networking companies support SDN, or have plans to implement it in the short term. In addition, a number of software networking components (soft routers, virtual switches, etc.) support the OpenFlow protocol or other comparable technologies that enable to implement SDN in Cloud environments.

The cartesian product of Cloud Computing and Software-Defined Network opens a formidable range of new opportunities that could change the very nature of the networking in the next future.

The Workshop topics include (but are not limited to) the following:

- Network infrastructure for IaaS, Paas and SaaS

- Data Center Network Management

- Distributed Data Center Architectures

- Data Center rationalization

- Networking for Big Data Management

- Virtual Switching

- Cloud Traffic optimization

- Software-Defined Networking

- Network Programmability

- Application Aware Network and Network Aware Application

- Network Aware Cloud Infrastructure

- Network Optimization for Green Computing

- User Defined Networking

- Data transfer optimization

- Storage in Cloud optimization

Paper Submission

Authors are invited to submit papers electronically through EasyChair Please specify NVSDN. Manuscripts may not exceed 6 letter size (8.5 x 11) pages including figures, tables and references using the IEEE format for conference proceedings (print area of 6-1/2 inches (16.51 cm) wide by 8-7/8 inches (22.51 cm) high, two-column format with a 3/8 inch (0.81 cm) space between them, single-spaced 10-point Times fully justified text). Submitted papers must represent original unpublished research that is not currently under review for any other conference or journal. Papers not following these guidelines will be rejected without review and further action may be taken, including (but not limited to) notifications sent to the heads of the institutions of the authors and sponsors of the conference. The proceedings will be published by the IEEE Computer Society, USA, and will be made available online through the IEEE Digital Library.
