3rd International Workshop on Ubiquitous Mobile Instrumentation (UbiMI'16) – collocated with UbiComp 2016.
Website: http://ubimi.blogspot.com

We invite submissions from researchers interested in the use of smartphones as a research tool for collecting rich datasets. Researchers are actively using smartphones to collect a variety of sensed data, including data from from accelerometers, GPS, network usage, and application usage. This workshop brings together researchers who take advantage of the proliferation of mobile devices and use them as instruments for research on ubiquitous computing. We are especially interested in the mobile devices, systems, applications, methods and tools that were built to obtain such rich datasets. More so, we want researchers to share their experiences, successes and frustrations in conducting research in such power and processing constrained devices, and reflect on the a state-of-art theories, models, methodologies and tools that address with these challenges.

=== TOPICS OF INTEREST ===

Relevant topic areas for workshop papers include, but are not limited to:
• Devices & techniques: descriptions of the design, architecture, usage and evaluation of mobile devices and techniques that create valuable new capabilities
• Systems & infrastructures: descriptions of the design, architecture, deployment and evaluation of mobile systems and infrastructures that offer instrumentation capabilities
• Applications: descriptions of the design and/or study of mobile instrumentation applications
• Methodologies & tools: new methods and tools applied to studying or building mobile systems and applications;
• Theories & models: critical analysis or organising theory with clear relevance to the design or study of mobile Ubicomp systems;
• Experiences: empirical investigations of the use of new or existing mobile Ubicomp technologies with clear relevance to the design and deployment of future mobile Ubicomp systems;

=== IMPORTANT DATES ===

Submission deadline: June 7th, 2016
Notification of acceptance: June 28th, 2016
Camera-ready: July 5th, 2016
Workshop: September 12-13th, 2016

=== SUBMISSIONS ===

Workshop papers are 5 pages + 1 page for references, in the SIGCHI Extended Abstracts 2016 format. To submit, send your paper to ubimi2016@ee.oulu.fi with “UbiMI 2016 submission” as email subject.

=== WORKSHOP FORMAT ===

The UbiMI workshop will be conducted as a mini-track (day 1) and a hands-on prototyping session (day 2):
- Day 1: each participant will present his workshop papers, followed by a short discussion.
- Day 2: We begin with an introduction to the AWARE mobile instrumentation framework (http://www.awareframework.com). The hands-on prototyping session will enable participants to create and explore the capabilities of AWARE for their own research interests.

All accepted papers will be included into the ACM Digital Library and the conference Adjunct Proceedings.

** NOTE **
Participants are encouraged to have Android Studio and up-to-date SDK installed on their laptops and an Android phone/tablet running Android 2.3 or higher (do not forget the USB cable for debugging your applications). We will provide the sample-code for the prototyping session, development slides and one-to-one guidance during the session. Participants should have experience programming, but it is not mandatory.
