Call For Papers

Nowadays, cloud computing is commonly used as a service infrastructure. As the computing paradigm shifts to cloud computing, most people think that a device could get less powerful than before because the computing resources could be elastically accessible from the device anytime/anywhere when the user wants to use it. However, most smart devices including smart TV and smartphones are still getting more powerful, even than workstations 10 years ago. Therefore, we believe that there is no problem to build the user's personalized customized computing environment with his/her powerful devices and even it can create the opportunity for device vendors to create new experience to users.

In this workshop, we introduce the concept of the Device Centric Cloud (DC2), using the device's resources as part of cloud computing in order to provide cloud services more efficiently. In DC2, we found out that some functionality such as data storage, data processing and user authentication can be migrated from cloud servers to devices. Additionally, through the analysis of the personal agent and search of the existing services, we make the suggestion on which functionalities in the server for each service can be migrated to the device for more effective services.

For Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) where Cyber world by cloud and Physical world by devices are
interworking for safety, efficiency, and entertainment, DC2 will be useful. Based on DC2, more practical
CPS applications will be designed and implemented in our living domains, such as wearable computing,
smart home networks, vehicular networks, and medical systems. This workshop will be able to make a good
starting venue to discuss these CPS applications based on DC2.

For Internet of Things (IoT) where IoT devices are interconnected with each other through the Internet, DC2 will also be used. Based on DC2, more practical IoT services and applications will be feasible, such as smart home, smart mall, smart road networks, and smart factory. This workshop will be a good venue to leverage DC2 for better IoT world. Also, Web of Things (WoT) can utilize DC2 as an application layer for various IoT applications, where IoT devices are interconneted through the World Wide Web.

Finally, DC2 can create the new business opportunities for the industries with new services such as login-free service and personalized service without the explicit user login process. This is because its device can have the unique ability to fully understand its user through profiling.

The topics of interest include, but are not limited to the following:
- Architecture, scenarios, and services for device centric cloud
- Workload balancing between device and cloud infrastructure
- Algorithms on dynamic workload balancing according to services
- Software-Defined Networking for device centric cloud
- Network Functions Virtualization for device centric cloud
- P2P/Ad-doc networking on device centric cloud

- Personalization services based on device centric cloud
- Service interoperability between device and cloud infrastructure
- Modeling, simulation and implementation for device centric cloud
- Performance evaluation and analysis on device centric cloud computing
- Mobile cloud computing based on device centric
- Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) based on device centric cloud
- Internet of Things (IoT) based on device centric cloud
- Web of Things (WoT) based on device centric cloud

Paper Submission
Prepare for a full paper of from 3 pages to 6 pages (IEEE Conference Publishing Services (CPS) Proceedings Manuscripts style: two columns, single-spaced), including figures and references, using 10 fonts, and number each page. You can confirm the IEEE Conference Publishing Services (CPS) Proceedings Author Guidelines at the following web page:
URL: http://www.computer.org/portal/web/cscps/submission.

Submitted papers will be carefully evaluated based on originality, significance, technical soundness, and clarity of exposition.

Submit it to Workshop-DC2-2016 in EDAS (https://edas.info/N19859) after registering your paper into EDAS.

Accepted papers will be given guidelines in preparing and submitting the final manuscript(s) together with the notification of acceptance. The proceeding will be submitted for publication by IEEE Conference Publishing Services (CPS) with 3 ~ 6 pages for each paper. Authors of accepted paper(s), or at least one of them, are requested to register and present their work at the conference, otherwise their paper(s) will be removed from the digital library after the conference.
