* IMPORTANT DATES
- Full papers due: January 27, 2015 (Extented) - Paper notifications: March 15, 2015 - Camera-ready copy and registration due: April 28, 2015 - Conference: July 1 - 5, 2015 * SCOPE This symposium provides a forum for researchers and practitioners to present and discuss research on Human-Machine Interaction and Aware Computing (HUMA). In this past decade, extensive and groundbreaking research on human-machine interaction has developed new insights into multiple areas of aware computing, including context-aware computing, situation-aware computing, affective computing, and smart/intelligent environments. The goal of HUMA is to create and further develop new and existing theories for multimedia systems and interfaces on devices that can detect intangible entities immune to immediate physical perception, such as emotional states, intentions, motivations, etc. A sensor-ridden elderly care system, for example, will need to be aware of its user's intentions or emotions in order to provide specific customized services. Systems or interfaces that can detect and analyze potential risks leading to a dangerous situations or signs of opportunities benefitting the user are the next step in a new generation of human-machine interactions. HUMA also encourages active discussions on methodologies, tools, and multimedia environments in human-machine interaction and aware computing that support computing areas addressed in other COMPSAC symposia. * ABOUT COMPSAC COMPSAC is the IEEE Signature Conference on Computers, Software, and Applications. It is one of the major international forums for academia, industry, and government to discuss research results, advancements and future trends in computer and software technologies and applications. COMPSAC 2015 will be organized as a tightly integrated union of several symposia, each of which will be focusing on a particular technical segment. Furthermore, COMPSAC 2015 will also include a student research competition, doctoral symposium, and fast abstracts, in addition to special sessions, panels, and keynotes to facilitate discourse on and deepen the understanding of the challenges by furthering the fundamental contributions needed for advances in computing systems. * ANNUAL THEME: MOBILE AND CLOUD SYSTEMS ? CHALLENGE AND APPLICATIONS With the rapidly growing trend in making computations and data both mobile and cloud-based, such systems are being designed and deployed worldwide. However, there still exists several challenges when they are applied to different domains or across domains. For example, the increasing convergence of applications in handheld devices have led to the mobile gadgets being a part of everyone's life. The hardware and software design in mobile systems with cloud-based delegation of data/computation has introduced several new challenges such as high power consumption, prolonged delays, security issues, big data, software engineering, human-machine interface, and hierarchical or cross-platform integration issues. COMPSAC 2015 will provide a platform for in-depth discussion of such challenges in emerging application domains such as Smart and connected health, wearable computing, internet-of-things, cyber-physical systems, and smart planet. * PAPER GUIDELINES Authors are invited to submit original, unpublished research work and novel computer applications; as well as industrial practice reports. Simultaneous submission to other publication venues is not permitted. The review and selection process for submissions is designed to identify papers that break new ground and provide substantial support for their results and conclusions as significant contributions to the field. Submissions will be selected that represent a major advancement in the subject of the symposia to which they are submitted. Authors of submissions with a limited contribution or scope may be asked to revise their submissions into a more succinct camera-ready format; e.g., a short paper, workshop paper, fast abstract, or poster. Beginning 2015, an independent review panel for the submitted industrial practice reports will be established to conduct peer reviews using a different, but as rigorous, set of review criteria from the industrial perspective. All accepted contributions will be included the conference proceedings. The length of a camera-ready regular paper or industry practice report is limited to 10 pages. Short papers and workshop papers are limited to 6 pages; fast abstracts to 2 pages; and posters to 1 page. Please follow the IEEE Computer Society Press Proceedings Author Guidelines in preparing your paper. Each accepted paper (full, short, industry, workshop, or fast abstract) is required to be registered at full rate by one of its authors. Reduced registration rates are available for posters and Doctoral Symposium papers, but such registrations will provide limited privileges during the conference. All accepted papers will be published in the electronic proceedings by the IEEE Computer Society. In order to enable indexing through INSPEC and EI Index, and inclusion in the IEEE digital library, a paper must be presented in person by one of its authors. A special poster session will be dedicated to Work-in-Progress, new ideas, and emerging fields and research topics in the area of computer software. An area on the conference premises will be designated for the presentation of such posters. Poster presenters are expected to bring their printed poster and handouts and be present for the entire duration of session. Attendees will browse the posters and directly interact with the presenters. Thus, the poster session is intended to be an informal, conversational forum for new ideas. Best Paper and Best Student Paper Awards will be presented by COMPSAC 2015. The first author of the best student paper must be a full-time student. Doctoral Symposium papers and posters are encouraged; a reduced registration rate applies. Authors of the best technical contributions will be invited to submit an extended version of their paper for consideration by reputable journals. In the past, certain technical contributions to COMPSAC were designated for eventual publication in journals including IEEE Computer, IEEE Transactions on Services Computing, Journal of Systems and Software, and Computer Communications - among others.
