MOTIVATION
The Brazilian Symposium on Information Systems (SBSI) is a preeminent Brazilian research meeting in the information systems area. It is conducted under the auspices of the Brazilian Computer Society (SBC). Each year, SBSI attracts up to three hundred or more attendees from throughout the country but it is attracting attendees from other regions of the world as well. The conference program includes research paper presentations, invited talks, tutorials, panels and workshops.

The 11th Brazilian Symposium on Information Systems (SBSI 2015) will take place at Goiânia, which is the capital and largest city of the Brazilian state of Goiás. Goiânia is a planned city founded on October 24, 1933 to serve as the new state capital and administrative center. Goiânia has the largest green area per inhabitant in Brazil, and the second-most in the world, after Edmonton, Canada. It is located 209 Km away from Brasília, the Brazil's capital, thus it is the nearest state capital from the federal capital. It is also located 167 Km away from Caldas Novas, which is considered to be the largest hydro-thermal resort in the world. Goiânia population is about to 1,300,000 inhabitants. The city has a tropical climate. May is the beginning of the dry season, with an average temperature of 22.2 °C (72.0 °F). The landscape is called "cerrado" and it is characterized by extensive savanna formations crossed by gallery forests and stream valleys, including various types of vegetation.

SYMPOSIUM THEME: Information Systems: a computer socio-technical perspective

The objective is to promote discussions on the Information Systems (IS) area considering its whole multidisciplinary approach and applications in the main different knowledge areas. In special, this edition will discuss the advances of the IS community aimed at integrating the diverse computer techniques and technologies to the way the society lives, works and communicates itself. This socio-technical approach is a broader view from the IS, involving not only technology and organizations, but also people and society as a whole. This research field has the potential to develop and improve the services of a country or region, through the conception of socio-technical systems (such as health systems, security systems, and energy and transportation systems, among others).

SPECIAL TRACKS

TRACK “Experience Reports in Industry and Case Studies”:
Chairs: Prof. Claudia Cappelli and Prof. Arnaldo Alves Ferreira Junior
Should be directed to this track papers that report experiences involving the application of Information Systems in the industry and in real organizations, or case studies that evaluate techniques, methodologies, tools or processes that are already existing in the literature, and that bring interesting and innovative reflections or results to the IS community. The purpose of this track is, therefore, to bring the academic community to the IT market reality, alternating discussions on theoretical and practice perspectives.

TRACK “IS Applications and Tools”:
Chairs: Prof. Sean Siqueira and Prof. Marcel Ferrante Silva
Should be directed to this track papers that present developed applications or tools covering the most different needs and various objectives of interest in Information Systems. The purpose of this track is to give opportunity to the academic community to demonstrate the practical results of its research projects in Information Systems and to the software industry community and IT organizations to present their tools and innovative results.

TRACK “Information Systems Education”:
Chairs: Prof. Fátima Nunes and Prof. Eliany Alvarenga de Araújo
The commitments of higher education in the twenty-first century have been widely discussed since the 90s of last century. Technological, economic, social and environmental changes demand a continuing education that fosters the development of technical and professional skills and social competences to an ethically compromised exercise of the profession and citizenship regarding human rights and sustainability. Considering this scenario, this track aims to foster the discussion on Information Systems education at undergraduate and graduate levels, including specific topics such as Curriculum and Programs, teaching and learning methodologies, techniques and tools applied to teaching and learning and University-Industry integration.

TRACK “Government Information Systems”:
Chairs: Prof. Claudia Cappelli, Prof. Renata Araujo and Prof. Dalton Lopes Martins
The Government has used information and communication technologies (ICTs) to democratize the access, to give processes and information transparency, to boost the delivery of public services with a focus on efficiency and effectiveness of government functions and expand / promote discussions. These technologies seek to establish mechanisms to support citizen; the improvement of the internal government management; and integration of the government with partners and suppliers. This is done with the intention of improving the quality of services provided; promote interaction with business and industry; and strengthen citizen participation through access to information. Various policies and laws related to e-government have been established worldwide, with direct implications in the methods, techniques and ICT building that adequately support the complexity of this universe. This track aims to discuss the techniques, methods, models and tools for development of ICTs to support e-government initiatives in the form of research papers.

TRACK “Business Process Management”:
Chairs: Prof. Flávia Maria Santoro and Prof.Juliano Lopes de Oliveira
The rise of the competitiveness and of the demands on companies and organizations in general requires the adoption of organizational models and business processes increasingly complex and interconnected. To cope with the complexity of these processes, Business Process Management (BPM) techniques are used. Such techniques support the capture, execution, control, analysis and improvement of business processes, possibly with the support provided by processes oriented information systems. This track aims to discuss the techniques, methodologies, models and frameworks of Business Process Management in the current environment, in which business processes cross organizational barriers and enable the integration of organizations, individuals, systems and services.
