NEW IDEAS AND EMERGING RESULTS TRACK
AT THE 33RD INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON SOFTWARE ENGINEERING (ICSE 2011) Goal and Scope The goal of the New Ideas and Emerging Results (NIER) track is to pro- vide researchers with a forum for presenting and getting early feed- back on novel research ideas and promising work that has not yet been fully evaluated. Generally speaking, the topics of interest for this track are the same as the Technical/Research track of ICSE 2011. However, a NIER paper is expected to challenge the status quo with either novel technical ap- proaches and results, new research directions, unusual synergies with other disciplines, provocative ideas, or evidence that long-standing beliefs no longer hold true. What and How to Submit All papers must conform at time of submission to the ICSE 2011 Format and Submission Guidelines, and must not exceed 4 pages, including all text, references, appendices and figures. In addition, the title of the submitted paper MUST begin with "New Ideas and Emerging Results Track:" (for instance: "New Ideas and Emerging Results Track: An Auto- matic Hello World Generator"). The paper abstract and/or introduction should clearly and concisely motivate in what respect the paper de- scribes a "new idea" or an "emerging result". The rest of the paper should focus on the proposed ideas, their impact on the field at large, and future research directions. A NIER paper is not expected to have a solid and complete evaluation as in the Technical/Research track. However, preliminary results providing initial support for the proposed ideas claims are definitely welcome. All submissions must be in English. Submissions must be in PDF format. Papers must be submitted electronically through CyberChairPRO: http://cyberchairpro.borbala.net/icsenierpapers/submit/ The deadline for NIER papers submission is December 10, 2010. Review and Evaluation Criteria Each submission will be reviewed by at least two members of the New Ideas and Emerging Results committee. The committee will review sub- missions using the standard ICSE criteria: originality, importance of contribution, soundness of rationale, quality of presentation, and ap- propriate consideration of relevant literature. However, the main cri- teria for acceptance is the degree to which a paper matches the afore- mentioned track goals and scope for "new idea and emerging results". Publication and Presentation Upon notification of acceptance, all authors of accepted papers will be asked to complete an ACM Copyright form and will receive further instructions for preparing their camera ready versions. All accepted contributions will be published in the conference electronic proceed- ings which will also be available as a printed proceedings. At least one author of each paper is required to present the results in the New Ideas and Emerging Results track at the ICSE 2011 conference. This will be a a highly interactive track where a short talk by the authors is followed by a moderated discussion involving a panel of senior re- searchers and the audience.
