During the last decades, the disciplines of Data Mining and Operations Research have been working mostly independent of each other. The increasing complexity of today’s applications in areas such as business, medicine and science requires more and more interaction between both disciplines. On the one hand, several data mining algorithms are based on optimization methods. On the other hand, in several applications the pure KDD process is not sufficient since it does not take explicitly into account the entire decision process.
The first workshop on Business Analytics and Optimization, BAO 2010 is aimed to bring together researchers and practitioners from both fields, to present recent developments, and to identify future challenges in this novel combination of research areas. From January 11 to 13, 2010, the workshop BAO 2010 will be held in the Faculty of Physical Sciences and Mathematics from the Universidad de Chile. We invite researchers and practitioners to send their original contributions on these topics, whose significance and quality will be reviewed. Submitted papers as well as presentations at the workshop must be performed in English or Spanish. Topics at this conference include, but are not limited to: Core Data Mining Topics: Dimensionality Reduction, Feature Extraction, and Feature Selection Supervised, Semi-Supervised, and Unsupervised Methods Statistical Learning Theory and Neural Network Research Online Learning, Data Stream Mining, and Dynamic Data Mining Graph Mining and Semi-Structured Data Spatial and Temporal Data Mining Uncertainty Modeling in Data Mining Business Analytics and Optimization Applications: Credit Scoring, Financial Modeling, and Forecasting Crime Modeling, Security, and Privacy Applications Web Intelligence and Information Retrieval Marketing and e-Commerce Applications Decision Analysis and Decision Support Systems Revenue Management Game Theory and Experimental Economics Industrial Applications of Business Analytics and Optimization |
