Surveillance can function both as a deterrent to help prevent crime as well as an investigative tool to aid us in identifying the actors and causes of incidents. Surveillance systems record multi-modal evidence, help carry out intelligent analytics to obtain multi-perspective understanding, alert security staff about security breaches, malicious events and hazardous situations. These security related events are captured in the content of surveillance video as a semantic unit, which bridges the gap between physical world and semantic cyberspace. If a picture is more than a thousand words, an event is worth thousands of pictures. Thus, multi-modal surveillance video may convey invaluable security information. Without proper automated means, it is extremely hard to manually process this big surveillance data for detecting interesting events. The workshop seeks high-quality papers, which utilize the knowledge from computer vision, machine learning, pattern recognition, image and video mining, and artificial intelligence to deal with events in surveillance. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

The standard paper length of this workshop is 12 pages only for oral presentation, all papers in your workshop must be peer-reviewed by at least three reviewers to get accepted. The papers presented at the workshop are to be published in a proceedings by Springer-Verlag in the LNCS.
