Call For Papers

A clear shift is occurring in medicine. Molecularly targeted therapies opened the era of “personalized medicine” which, in its simplest definition, consists of administering the right drug to the right patient at the right moment. Indeed, it is now clear that therapeutic agents are not able to produce the same effect in different patients. To reduce this variability, a great variety of -omic strategies have been recently developed to obtain a precise genetic and molecular profile of each patient enabling the identification of prognostic and predictive factors. However, personalized medicine not only is limited to that but also concerns the development of new strategies for the early detection of diseases and for the prediction of the therapeutic response and, in this context; theranostic nanomedicine has a central role. For example, nanodevices can integrate therapeutic and imaging agents in the same structure. Furthermore, they can be designed in order to be versatile, modular, and highly specific towards pathological cells.

Personalized nanomedicine has been widely applied for the treatment of cancer (e.g., photothermal therapy, magnetic fluid hyperthermia, photodynamic therapy, stimuli-responsive drug release, etc.) where inter- and intratumoral genetic variability can affect the tumor vasculature and the microenvironment and consequently the effectiveness of the treatments. But this concept has also been applied to inflammatory/autoimmune diseases, diabetes, neurodegenerative diseases, and rehabilitation and in lung and cardiovascular pathologies.

We invite investigators to contribute original research articles as well as review articles that will help in increasing the scientific knowledge and awareness about the potential of nanotechnology and nanosized materials for personalized treatment of diseases.

Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

Recent advances in the field of -omics technologies
Development of nanodevices with high versatility and modularity
Development of nanocarriers for targeted delivery of drugs
Nanotheranostic agents
New nanobased screening approaches
