Call For Papers

The Forum on Philosophy, Engineering & Technology (fPET) is a biennial meeting for philosophers, engineers and other researchers and practitioners related to both fields. The mission of fPET is
• to encourage reflection on engineering, engineers, and technology and
• to build bridges between existing organizations of philosophers and of engineers.

The fPET meetings continue the tradition of the Workshops on Philosophy and Engineer (WPE) at TU Delft in 2007 and at the Royal Academy of Engineering in London in 2008. Previous fPET meetings have been held at Colorado School of Mines in 2010, at the Graduate University of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in Beijing in 2012 and at Virginia Tech in 2014.

Various volumes of the Springer series Philosophy of Engineering and Technology are a direct outcome of previous fPET meetings.

fPET 2016 will be hosted by Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg in cooperation between the Chair of Information Systems, Innovation and Value Creation and the Institute of Philosophy.

Submissions

Abstracts (500-750 words) are invited for submission in one of four tracks:
• Philosophy of engineering and technology
• Engineering ethics
• Reflections of practitioners
• Interdisciplinary topics on engineering

All submissions will be blind-reviewed by the program committee, which includes both philosophers and engineers. The submissions will be assessed according to their disciplinary background. Those accepted for presentation at fPET2016 will be scheduled for 30-minute talks (inclusive of Q&A). All abstracts accepted for fPET2016 will be published online at the Forum website and in a printed volume available at the meeting.

Deadline: 31 January 2016

Abstracts may be submitted electronically via http://fpet2016.org/submissions. Submission opens in December 2015. Notifications of acceptance will be sent by 1 March 2016.
