Call For Papers

The Third BIOMICS Workshop will take place from the 8th to the 10th of February at the University of Passau in Germany.

The main purpose of this workshop is to enable project partners to present the main findings from the third and last year of BIOMICS research to each other and to external guests, especially from the Interaction Computing Research Network (ICRN) and the UCOMP cluster. We also welcome speakers from outside the project who are working on similar topics.

See the Abstracts and Presentations from the workshops in 2013 and 2014.

*Scope*

The project aims to develop a new model of computation inspired by the biochemistry of the cell and based on interactions. To the extent possible, the project aims to achieve structure-preserving mappings from the biological to the computational domain, specifically because through such mappings invariant quantities are mapped to invariant quantities. In this manner the project hopes to establish constraints in the computational domains that correspond to biological properties such as homeostasis and dynamical stability.

The project’s activities can be divided into the symmetry analysis of systems of differential equations from systems biology, the study of the algebraic structure of finite-state automata, the specification and proof-of-concept implementation of reactive, event-driven computational environments, and a category theory framework to connect all these domains through structure-preserving functors and adjunctions.
Topics of Interest

- Stochastic and Functorial Methods in Systems Biology
- Algebraic Automata Theory, Semigroups and Computer Algebra

*Call for Contributions*

We are interested in learning about fields of unconventional and biologically-inspired computing that may provide interesting new problems to which our mathematical machinery could be applied. Thus, any contributions from interdisciplinary efforts at the boundary of (any subset of) biology, chemistry, physics, electronics, and mathematics with computer science would be welcome.
Submission

Submissions can be made as a 1-page abstract in pdf format and should be received by the 11th of January.

As we will assemble a proceedings of the conference, authors are encouraged to produce longer contributions, which need to be received by the 14th of March. Contributions can be in any (pdf) form: short paper, long paper, or presentation slides. If a longer contribution is not sent we will utilize the abstract for the proceedings.

Please use the LNCS template to prepare your manuscript.

*Important Dates*

Abstract Submission: January 11th, 2016
Registration: January 15th, 2016
Workshop: February 8th-10th, 2016
Final paper for proceedings: March 14th, 2016

*Venue*

The workshop will take place at the University of Passau in Germany in the Business Administration and Economics Building.
