Modern technologies and techniques in engineering and informatics have been multiplying in the last few decades, affecting the lives of people around the world. Such technologies have come to define modern lifestyles and must face up to the increasing challenges of morphing into sustainable and green technologies. This conference aims to be a venue of dialogue and exchange of ideas between researchers in a wide range of relevant fields.
Recent advances in communication systems, manufacturing systems, emerging technologies in vehicle research and design, robotics, intelligent machines and mechatronic systems all have their impacts on the environment and will be viewed, in this event, in light of the backdrop of sustainable development. Planning, design, construction and operation of sustainable buildings and infrastructure increase the life cycle and economic value of buildings, enhance their environmental contribution and positively impact the social equity. Advanced building technologies, smart structures, optimized geotechnics, nanotechnology, water and waste water management and sustainable models in construction are considered within an environmentally responsible framework. The integration among informatics and engineering is inevitable due to recent advances that result in facilitating solutions of complex modelling and analysis problems. Big data is a rapidly expanding research area spanning the fields of computer science and information management, and has become central in understanding and solving complex problems in different disciplinary fields. Cloud computing is the evolution of distributed computing combined with Service-oriented architecture, leveraging most of the GRID features and virtualization merits. Artificial Intelligence is an established area of computer science aiming at the simulation of human intelligence processes by machines. Green buildings limit their environmental impact by conserving energy and are constructed of recycled or renewable materials in order to achieve maximum resource efficiency. Sustainable development will have to implement tools based on up-to-date technology and scientific research. Renewable energy resources have emerged as a vital alternative to conventional energy and constitute one of the major themes of this conference. Recent innovative and sustainable developments in chemical, refining and petroleum industries are critical to lead to greener and sustainable industries with minimum waste and harm to the environment and society. The BUE ACE1is meant to provide a unique platform for engaging researchers in a wide range of engineering and informatics aspects within a sustainable development backdrop. |
