Call For Papers

The Paris Agreement (COP21) for the first time engaged all nations into a common cause based on their historic, current and future responsibilities. The universal agreement’s main aim is to keep a global temperature rise this century well below 2 degrees Celsius and to drive efforts to limit the temperature increase even further to 1.5 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels. The 1.5-degree Celsius limit is a significantly safer defense line against the worst impacts of a changing climate. The Paris conference identifies the opportunities and challenges that arise from a necessary global transformation to clean and sustainable development.

The Paris Agreement reached at COP21 has been declared as a key milestone in fighting climate change. But it also is widely recognized that much support is still needed to help Developing countries deliver on their pledges. Specifically, there is a need to explore new ideas and approaches to help countries implement their Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs).

The aim of this conference will be to discuss actionable ideas that can help advance the implementation of developing countries’ Paris pledges and to address other key issues in the climate arena. The conference will be focused on new economic, social and political ideas that could help with future negotiations and provide innovative options to remove obstacles for the implementation of the Paris Agreement.

SQU has considerable experience through research and capacity building in the field of climate change mitigation and adaptation, which has successfully worked with Ministries at the National level in the preparation of mitigation and adaptation strategies, National Communication (NATCOM) reports to UNFCCC. This conference expects significant number of papers from Oman and the region to be submitted for this conference .

Abstracts should contain the title of the contribution, the name and affiliation of the authors, and the address for correspondence, including phone and e-mail. The abstract should not exceed 500 words. Please use font size 12” of New Times Roman, 1.5 line spacing.

The subject of the presentation should be focused on the topics of the conference. The Scientific Committee will communicate to the authors the provisional acceptance of their contributions to the conference. All selected authors will be informed in which session they will be presenting their oral paper.
