Call For Papers

Ontology is an interdisciplinary field that studies concepts and theories that provide the basis for building shared conceptualizations of specific domains. In recent years, we have noticed a growth in interest in the application of ontologies to solve modeling and classification problems in various areas such as: Computer Science, Information Science, Philosophy, Artificial Intelligence, Linguistics, Knowledge Management, Semantic Web and others.

The Seminar on Ontology Research in Brazil (ONTOBRAS) aims to bring together the community of researchers and students investigating the subject of Ontology in the fields of Computer Science and Information Science, as well as professionals from the information industry, providing opportunities and a scientific environment for the exchange of knowledge on theories, methods, languages and ontology engineering tools and experiences in ontology applications in the solution of various problems.

Now in its 17th edition, ONTOBRAS 2024 is part of a tradition that has been going since 2005 in Brazil, and which has been defined by the Brazilian Ontology Community as a unique, highly scientifically qualified forum for the presentation and discussion of ontologies and application cases. The seminar aims to expand and strengthen the Ontology community in Brazil by exchanging experiences between researchers, students and professionals, and encouraging proximity between Academia and Industry, allowing cutting-edge solutions designed in these environments to influence real applications in different sectors.

Researchers and professionals are invited to submit theoretical, technical and practical research contributions that directly or indirectly deal with the topics of interest presented in the call for papers. Papers ranging from philosophical and theoretical foundations to new technologies and innovative applications are welcome.

Submission Guidelines
Submissions should be written in ENGLISH (preferably), PORTUGUESE or SPANISH. We STRONGLY encourage authors to submit their articles in ENGLISH so that they can reach readers in different countries. Submissions in PORTUGUESE or SPANISH must have an abstract and keywords in ENGLISH.

All submissions will be reviewed by experts in the field.

All articles must be original and cannot have been submitted simultaneously to another conference or journal. The following categories of papers are welcome (page limits exclude references):

Full articles (10 to 12 pages): High quality articles on a wide range of topics with a focus on consolidated research contributions in ontologies. They can be even more specialized, theoretical, technical and practical research contributions that deal directly or indirectly with the topics of interest indicated in this call for papers or related to them. They can also be the work of advanced students whose dissertations or theses are in the final stages and have not been completed by the time of submission, but already show substantial results.
Short articles (5 to 6 pages): Generally these are student articles, not limited to this, they can discuss new ideas that are at an early stage of development or they can report partial results of ongoing research, dissertations or theses.

Authors must indicate in the submission which category the article is being submitted in. In addition, it is suggested to indicate as a footnote on the first page of the article which submission category has been defined.

Submissions should be made via EasyChair using the following URL: https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=ontobras2024

All submissions must be in Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF) and must follow the CEUR-ART template, single column. Templates for Microsoft Office Word, Open Office and LaTeX can be downloaded at: http://ceur-ws.org/Vol-XXX/CEURART.zip (right-click on the link and select "Save link").

The template for Overleaf is available at https://www.overleaf.com/latex/templates/template-for-submissions-to-ceur-workshop-proceedings-ceur-ws-dot-org/hpvjjzhjxzjk.

Accepted papers will be published in the proceedings of ONTOBRAS 2024 at CEUR-WS, as part of the IAOA series. The publication of accepted papers at ONTOBRAS requires the registration of at least one of their authors at ONTOBRAS, as well as the presentation of the paper during the event. Accepted papers will be presented in person.
Desk Rejection
Articles outside the scope of ONTOBRAS or that do not conform to the required format and submission rules will be rejected without going through the review process.
Best Paper Award
The ONTOBRAS Program Committee will select a full paper to receive the Best Paper Award.
