3RD IOT-HR: WORKSHOP ON INTERNET OF THINGS IN HEALTH RESEARCH
Aim and Scope: The workshop focuses on the challenges and opportunities presented by the continuous data acquisition from Internet of Things (IoT) devices, such as smartwatches, fitness trackers, mobile phones, and smart home appliances. These devices offer unprecedented insights into our daily lives and physical well- being, with significant implications for health-related research, diagnosis, treatment, and the promotion of healthy, self-reliant lifestyles. However, the collection of this data raises several issues that need to be addressed. Key among these is ensuring the quality and relevance of the data, enhancing usability and long-term adoption of IoT devices, and maintaining transparency, data protection, and credibility in data handling. This workshop aims to explore these critical areas in a collaborative environment, bringing together industry experts, academic researchers, and practitioners. The goal is to deepen our understanding of these challenges and to identify innovative strategies and solutions for optimizing the use of IoT data in health and wellness contexts. Participants will have the opportunity to engage in discussions and activities that foster the exchange of ideas and best practices, setting the stage for future advancements in this rapidly evolving field. Topics: ● Use of IoT systems for health research ● IoT and electronic Patient-Reported Outcomes (ePRO) / electronic Clinical Outcome Assessment (eCOA) ● IoT-based telehealth and home monitoring systems ● IoT-based Active and Healthy Ageing technologies ● Hardware/software platforms for health research ● Algorithms and methods for gathering clinically relevant knowledge from IoT devices ● Security, privacy, and trust in IoT for health applications ● Clinical trials and pilot studies involving IoT Format: The format of this workshop consists of presentations and/or demonstrations followed by a session where attendants, including authors, discuss their own work, or connected research and application topics. When registering for the workshop, attendants will be asked to name some topics that they would be interested in discussing. The answers will be used to set up the topics of the discussion rooms. Online presentations and discussion sessions are also possible if the attendant cannot travel. Paper submission: Papers should be submitted through EAI ‘Confy+‘ system, and have to comply with the Springer format (see Submission guidelines section).
