Niccolò Machiavelli died in Florence on June 21, 1527, after having spent much of his life in the service of politics, both as a speculative category and as a social practice. Although he is remembered particularly for his theoretical work, which immortalized certain concepts and principles within the global reflection that followed him, his activity also played a very particular role within the political-diplomatic framework of his time. Specifically, his figure was of great importance both within the urban and republican political framework of Florence, and within the Italian and European scenario shaken by the war between the great powers in formation that asserted themselves between the 15th and 16th centuries.

In 2027, it will be 500 years since the death of the Florentine Secretary, five centuries formed by his thought, which has crystallized in many ideas and as many reflections of various thinkers and political theorists. Furthermore, his activity within the European political chessboard was part, as mentioned, of a great process of global transformation that saw Italy as a battlefield between France and Spain. It is undeniable that the work and life of this Author is fundamental to understanding on the one hand the historical period in which he lived, and on the other the subsequent developments of the theory and of the European political organization.

In memory of the anniversary of his death, we intend to collect essays on the work of Machiavelli and the political and social context in which he lived, as well as on his posthumous reception, as regards Spain. This nation represented, during the life of the Florentine Secretary, a major player within the Machiavellian political and cultural context, as well as being one of the main contenders in the Italian Wars. The essays, which may represent various approaches to the theme, must concern the relationship between Machiavellian Italy and Spain, that of the Florentine Secretary with the Iberian nation, or the reception of his thought in the literature and reflection of the Spanish intelligentsia.
