Call For Papers

Palgrave Studies in Monstrosity
CALL FOR Contributors:
Interracial Cinemas and the Monstered Body
Deadline for Proposals: September 1st 2025

Interracial buddies and romantic relationships in movies are fundamental ways in which race relations are presented to audiences. This edited collection will investigate interracial relationships in film to open up conversations about race, citizenship, cultural belonging, and identity. Each chapter will focus on a different film that highlights the ways in which interracial relationships are problematized. We therefore seek global scholars to interrogate movies from the United States, African, Latin American, Middle Ea. stern, and Asian cinemas to learn how interracial relationships address race relations in other cultural contexts.

The final chapters will be approximately 7000-9000 words.

Please email 300-word proposals with a short biographical statement (50 words) to Melissa Anyiwo and Jayson Baker at monstrositystudies@gmail.com

Palgrave Studies in Monstrosity is a fully peer-reviewed series that explores beings and groups who have been monstered, Othered, and otherwise pushed to the margins. Monsters, monstered bodies, and monstrosity are multifaceted and mercurial, changing to reflect cultural milieus and historical moments. The series editors seek global scholars of diverse identities, whose work analyzes these ideas from multiple perspectives, non-normative experiences, and divergent narratives. Ultimately, texts will highlight the global appeal of (re)imagining monsterology.

CFPs will lead to completed proposals being submitted to Palgrave’s peer review system before being contracted. Collections will go into production within twenty-four months of the contract date.
