FAITH AND TECHNOLOGY:

THEOLOGICAL PERSPECTIVES ON EMERGING TECHNOLOGIES



Open Theology (https://www.degruyter.com/journal/key/opth/html) invites submissions for the topical issue “Faith and Technology: Theological Perspectives on Emerging Technologies,” edited by Angelos Mavropoulos (Alexander von Humboldt Foundation / Heidelberg University, Germany).



DESCRIPTION


Emerging technologies are reshaping human life, society, and ethical frameworks. This special issue explores how theology engages with emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, human enhancement, and digital culture. It will examine ethical, social, and theological questions raised by these developments, addressing their implications for human dignity, community, and the moral life. Contributions are welcome from all Christian traditions as well as interfaith or comparative perspectives, with interdisciplinary approaches encouraged.


Topics may include:


· Theological reflections on the human person, identity, and embodiment in a technological age

· Ethical evaluation of artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, and enhancement technologies

· Reflection on social, psychological, and ecological consequences of emerging technologies from the religious point of view

· Pastoral and societal guidance in engaging with new technologies

· Interfaith or comparative perspectives on technology, transhumanism, and digital culture


Submissions from a range of theological traditions, interdisciplinary approaches, and global perspectives are encouraged. Contributors may include scholars in theology, ethics, sociology, philosophy, bioethics, and related disciplines.



Because Open Theology is published under an Open Access model, as a rule, publication costs should be covered by Article Publishing Charges (APC), paid by authors, their affiliated institutions, funders or sponsors.

Authors without access to publishing funds are encouraged to discuss potential discounts or waivers with Managing Editor of the journal Katarzyna Tempczyk (katarzyna.tempczyk@degruyterbrill.com) before submitting their manuscripts.
