Call For Papers

Dear Colleagues,

This Special Issue of Technologies on “Disruptive Technologies and Applications on Arts and Cultural Heritage” aims to investigate the application and transformative impact of emerging and disruptive technologies in the fields of arts and cultural heritage. The rapid advancement of technologies such as artificial intelligence, extended reality, 3D scanning, and blockchain presents unprecedented opportunities and new challenges for the preservation, interpretation, and public engagement with cultural heritage.

We welcome original contributions that explore the convergence of these technologies with cultural heritage and arts, including but not limited to the following topics:

Extended Reality (XR): Applications of virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and mixed reality (MR) in enhancing cultural heritage experiences.
Artificial Intelligence (AI): Machine learning, deep learning, and AI-driven solutions in heritage conservation, analysis, and restoration, including generative AI for creative content generation and simulation.
Three-dimensional Scanning and Printing: Innovations in digital preservation and reconstruction using three-dimensional scanning technologies and additive manufacturing.
Digital Twins: Creation and use of digital replicas of artifacts, sites, or cultural environments for preservation, education, and public engagement.
Blockchain and NFTs: The use of blockchain and non-fungible tokens (NFTs) in the digital verification, ownership, and exchange of cultural assets.
Cloud-Based Digital Repositories and Open Data Platforms: The role of cloud computing and open data platforms in preserving and democratizing access to cultural heritage.
Remote Sensing and Satellite Imaging: Advanced remote sensing and satellite imagery techniques for monitoring and safeguarding heritage sites.
Natural Language Processing (NLP): Leveraging NLP for processing historical texts, multilingual heritage preservation, and cultural documentation.
Affective Computing: Techniques for detecting and responding to users’ affective states and engagement, including sentiment analysis, emotion recognition, and adaptive system design in cultural heritage applications.
Game Engines, Gamification, and Interactive Storytelling: The use of game engines and gamification in creating interactive, immersive cultural heritage narratives and educational tools.
