The Art Department and the Department of Hispanic Languages & Literature at Stony Brook University (State University of New York), announce the 2nd edition of the International Conference on Media Studies and Experimental Practices.


This second edition of the conference of AWA: ACTIONS OF WATER AWARENESS, continues the exploration of water as a vital element in the world’s ecosystems. This year, the conference broadens its focus to include media studies, the humanities, and innovative approaches in contemporary art.


This conference seeks to bring together diverse perspectives on water through an interdisciplinary and critical lens, fostering dialogue across cultural history, media and sound studies, science, the humanities, and artistic practices. By bridging these fields, the conference encourages reflection and timely discussion on the intersections of art, ecology, science, and the humanities in our contemporary world.


We invite scholars, artists, scientists, and professionals from related disciplines to share their research through academic papers, artist talks, and posters/demos, which contribute to the discussion about how water resonates with and reverberates through cultural, social, biological, and environmental dimensions.
