Conversational AI and Dialogue Systems
Conversational AI systems-such as voice assistants and chatbots- are now being increasingly used in various domains such as online customer support, HR processes, healthcare, accessible environments, teaching and learning etc. However, there exists several research challenges in the development of such systems. These include aspects associated with language input-such as dialects, accents, and background noises; slang and unscripted language; emotions, tone, and sarcasm etc. There are also issues of user apprehensions, privacy and security, socio-economic impact and unavailability of such systems in low-resource languages. This special issue welcomes submissions on recent advancements in and around these themes in Conversational and Dialog systems.
