Call for Papers: ACM DIS 2021, June 28-July 2 (asynchronous).


We are pleased to invite you to submit to ACM Designing Interactive Systems (DIS) 2021, which will take place in a virtual format between June 28 and July 2, 2021.

Conference Theme: Nowhere and Everywhere
The theme for DIS 2021 acknowledges the state of the world, and the challenges it brings to designers and design researchers. The changes to everyday life are unsettling, but also an opportunity to think about where we are, and where we should go from here.

We are taking this opportunity to deconstruct the idea of the conference-- to reconsider how we can share knowledge without sharing space, and to take time to enjoy the interaction design research community without leaving home. With our “non-ference,” we will continue Designing Interactive Systems as a premier venue for interaction design research in HCI while preserving our collective health, safety and sanity. In this year, the opportunity to share our work, and to think about material, interaction, process, technology and design is a cause for celebration.

DIS 2021 venues: Less is More
The venues for DIS 2021 will be limited to the technical program, pictorials, and the doctoral consortium only. We are open to creative suggestions for community and conversation building activities which can take place in a lightweight online distributed time-zone friendly manner.

February 4: Papers and Pictorials: title, abstract, metadata
February 11: Papers and Pictorials: Full paper submissions
March 12th: Doctoral Consortium submission
April 8th: Notification for authors, Papers, Pictorials, Doctoral Consortium
April 22nd: Camera-ready deadlines for everything
May 13th: Video-ready deadlines (if applicable)
June 28th-July 2nd: Papers program
