THIS YEAR’S FOCUS:
**The impact of next-generation memory on computing systems**

The ARCS conferences series has over 35 years of tradition reporting
leading edge research in computer architectures and operating systems.

Emerging memory technologies such as three-dimensional integrated memory
and non-volatile memory promise tremendous improvements for computing
systems, including lower power consumption, higher processing performance,
byte-addressability, and non-volatility. The focus of the ARCS'23
conference will be on novel hardware-based and software-based approaches
to exploit the potential of emerging memory technologies in terms of
performance, energy consumption, persistence, reliability, and scalability
of future computing systems. This includes research on the level of
computer architectures, runtime and operating systems, design tools,
as well as programming models, algorithms, and data structures.

In addition to the main conference, ARCS will host special tracks
comprising topics such as Organic Computing, operating systems and
middleware for emerging system, or fault tolerance.

The proceedings of ARCS 2023 will be published in the Springer Lecture
Notes on Computer Science (LNCS) series. A best paper and best
presentation award will be presented at the conference.

This year the conference will be a physical meeting with a social program.
To ensure a safest possible meeting for all participants, we will monitor
the Corona situation closely and will take all necessary protection steps
following government guidelines as well as extra measures as needed.

**17th Workshop on Dependability and Fault Tolerance (VERFE 2023)
organized as Special Track in conjunction with 36th ARCS 2023**
===========================
Although the basic reliability of hardware and software components has
improved over decades, their increasing number causes severe problems.
Moreover, in recent years it can be observed that an increasing number
of devices are integrated into environments of other physical components
such as automotive or digital systems. Here, the complexity and number
of interactions with these components creates problems with regard to
maintaining a dependable operation of the entire system in case of
faults or external disturbances. While this is not a problem with micro-
processors, shrinking feature sizes, higher complexity, lower voltages,
and higher clock frequencies increase the probability of design,
manufacturing and operational faults, making fault tolerance techniques
in general purpose processors to be of crucial importance in the future.
As simple solutions (such as TMR) can easily get too expensive, the
ability to trade increased reliability against performance/power
overhead will become important, resulting in light-weight fault
tolerance techniques implemented in hardware, but controllable from
higher software layers.

This workshop aims at presenting contributions and work-in-progress from
the research area of dependable and fault-tolerant computing in order to
bring together scientists working in related fields.

**Special Track on Organic Computing**
===========================
Organic Computing postulates to equip technical systems with `lifelike’
properties. Technically, this means to move traditional design-time
decisions to runtime and into the responsibility of systems themselves.
As a result, systems have a dramatically increased decision freedom that
leads to highly autonomous behaviour. The goal of this process is to allow
for self-adaptation and self-improvement of system behaviour at runtime.
Especially since conditions that occur at runtime can only be anticipated
to a certain degree, efficient mechanisms are needed that guide the
system’s behaviour even in cases of missing knowledge or uncertain
environmental states. Consequently, the research field of Organic
Computing investigates fundamental principles, discusses essential
aspects and researches novel methods that are needed to finally build
self-adaptive and self-organising systems that are capable of reliable
operation in complex real-world environments.

The special track on `Organic Computing’ focusses on developments and
open challenges in the field of self-adaptive and self-organising systems
embedded in real-world environments.

**Submission guidelines**
===========================
Authors are invited to submit original, unpublished research papers via
EasyChair: https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=arcs2023

ARCS 2023 uses a double-blind reviewing system. Manuscripts must not
identify authors or their affiliation. When citing own work, it must be
done in a neutral form (i.e. avoiding ‘our’, ‘we’, ‘previous work’ etc.).
Papers must be submitted in PDF format, formatted according to Springer
LNCS style and must not exceed 15 pages, including references, appendices
and figures.
