LEI & BRICK (University of Torino – Collegio Carlo Alberto) organise the5th annual workshop “The Organisation, Economics and Policy of Scientific Research” on27-28April, 2012 at the Collegio Carlo Alberto in Moncalieri (Torino).
The aim of the workshop is to bring together a small group of scholars interested in the analysis of the production and diffusion of scientific research from an economics, historical, organizational, and policy perspective. Call for papers As in previous workshops, we aim to attract contributions from both junior and senior scholars, a minimum number of slots are reserved for junior researchers (PhD students or scholars, who obtained their PhD in 2009 or later). The best junior scholar paper will be awarded with a special mention prize. See below for details. 16-20 papers will be selected from open submissions on the basis of peer review. The workshop aims at includingpapers form various streams of research developed in recent years in and around the area of public and private scientific research. Contributions are invited on (but not limited to)one or more of the following topics: Organisation of research activities in HE, PRO and private R&D labs Scientific careers & mobility Public and private funding of scientific research Spillovers from scientific research Science research networks Teaching and research interaction Special Session Academic Patenting in Europe: In cooperation with the ESF Research Networking Programme “Academic Patenting in Europe (APE-INV)”,we organize a special session on the empirical analysis of academic patenting and its economic and organizational implications. Important dates: 15th January 2012. Deadline for submission of full paper or extended abstract (minimum 3 pages) 6thFebruary2012. Notification of acceptance 1stApril 2012. Participation, travel, and accommodation expenses: Participation tothe workshop is free for authors of selected papers. We are offering a limited number of traveland accommodation support grants to junior scholars(PhD students or scholars, who obtained their PhD in 2009 or later). To be considered for such grants, please state your intention and your eligibility when submitting your paper. For people attending the workshop a registration fee of €150 is asked,whichincludes access to the conference venue, coffee breaks, lunches, and conference dinner. Best Junior Scholar Paper During the Workshop, a Special Mention and a Prize of 400€ will be awarded to the Best Junior Scholar Paper. Eligible papers are works of one or more junior scholars (PhD students or scholars, who obtained their PhD in 2009 or later), with no co-authorship by senior scholars.Authors wishing to compete for the Best Junior Scholar Paper, have to state theirintention and fulfilment of eligibility criteria when submitting their paper.
