Submission Deadline extended to May 6, 2012 !! +-----------------------------------------------+ In Conjunction with The 9th IEEE International Conference on Ubiquitous Intelligence and Computing (UIC-2012) (http://conf.kyusan-u.ac.jp/uic2012/) September 04 - 07, 2012 Kyushu Sangyo University, Fukuoka, Japan **************************************************************************** AIMS AND SCOPES OF THE WORKSHOP: WEISS-2012 aims to be a forum on the trends as well as innovations in the growing areas of embedded intelligence and smart systems, and to bring together researchers and developers from academia and industry for advancing the technology in embedded intelligence, smart systems, their development as well as their applications. The workshop has the following goals: 1. to investigate advances in embedded intelligence and smart systems; 2. to promote integrated applications of embedded intelligence and smart systems; 3. to evaluate the maturity and directions of technologies related to embedded intelligence and smart systems; 4. to bridge research and practicing experience in the communities of embedded systems and smart systems. The workshop will take place at Kyushu Sangyo University in Fukuoka of Japan, and will be co-located with the 9th IEEE International Conference on Ubiquitous Intelligence and Computing (UIC-2012). The technical program will consist of invited talk and presentation of technical papers. The workshop attendees will explore the state-of-art research and development in embedded intelligence, smart systems, and their applications. Papers describing new ideas, promising approaches, novel mechanisms, insightful experiences with practical and research systems, and work in progress are welcome. Prospective authors are invited to submit papers in all relevant areas of embedded intelligence and/or smart systems including, but not limited to the following topics: - Adaptable and context-aware embedded systems - Architecture, design and development of embedded systems and embedded software - Autonomous systems and safety-critical embedded systems - Cyber-physical and embedded computing - Distributed and cooperative embedded computing - Distributed embedded safety-critical real-time systems - Embedded intelligence for ambient assisted living - Embedded intelligence in ambient environment - Embedded intelligence in medical and health care - Embedded intelligence in robotics and control Systems - Embedded system and web services - Embedded system with cloud computing - End-to-end management of connected smart systems - Green embedded computing - Innovation and novel application of embedded intelligence in automotive, consumer, communication, and avionics - Low power and energy efficient embedded systems - Modeling and design methodology of embedded intelligence and smart systems - Networking smart systems - Open standard for connected smart devices - Reactive processing and reactive embedded systems - Security versus embedded intelligence - Tool chain for development of embedded intelligence and/or smart systems - Ubiquitous and pervasive embedded computing SUBMISSION OF PAPERS: Papers presenting original, unpublished work or insightful application experience are invited for submission. The papers must be written in English and must not substantially overlap with papers that have been published or are under review. All the papers will be peer reviewed based on originality, significance, technical soundness, and clarity. Authors should prepare full papers in PDF format complying with IEEE Computer Society Proceedings Manuscripts style (A4 size, two columns, single-spaced), and should not exceed 6 pages including all figures, tables, and references. Templates for typesetting paper format can be downloaded from IEEE CS web site: http://www.ieee.org/conferences_events/conferences/publishing/templates.html Paper submission must be done via The MyReview System at http://grid.chu.edu.tw/weiss2012/sub or following the link shown in the workshop web page. Once accepted, the authors should follow the author kit to be sent by the IEEE CS for the preparation of the final manuscript. At least one of the authors of each accepted paper should register as a full participant of the workshop to have the paper published in the proceedings. The author registration date and the final manuscript due date are strict. For more details, please visit the web page of WEISS-2012 (http://rtes.ncku.edu.tw/weiss2012/) or UIC-2012 (http://conf.kyusan-u.ac.jp/uic2012/).
