Call For Papers

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is shifting the way technological solutions are being designed and implemented both in Europe and worlwide. Namely, current and future systems need to address, by design, features such as the protection of personal identifiable information, the right of individuals to track and delete their personal information, and the traceability of all accesses and operations done over personal data. Satisfying these needs will profoundly impact the performance, scalability and reliability of current solutions. Also, it will require bringing more thoretical work on the security and cryptography field into practical solutions that can be leveraged by nowadays systems.

The main goal of this workshop is to provide a common forum to discuss the new research challenges raised by GDPR. By gathering researchers and practicioners working on research topics such as big data, data science, distributed systems, databases, networking, and security, the workshop aims at discussing current state of the art, emerging challenges and trends, as well as, novel solutions for GDPR compliant systems and applications. Such discussion will allow a better understanding of the theoretical and practical impact of the GDPR legislation in nowadays technological solutions.

The workshop is looking for submissions in the form of position/vision papers with 2 pages. The papers should explicitly address new research challenges or/and propose novel solutions that are driven by the challenges raised by the GDPR legislation. The organization welcomes contributions from both academia and industry. All submissions will be reviewed by members of the workshop program committee, who will select the best submissions for presentation at the workshop. The workshop will not contemplate proceedings for accepted papers. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Big Data Systems
- Machine Learning
- Artificial Intelligence
- Storage Systems
- Network Systems
- Databases
- Distributed Systems
- Middleware Systems
- Security and Privacy
- Internet of Things
- Blockchain

This workshop has the scientific sponsorship of the SafeCloud (www.safecloud-project.eu) European research project.

Note that submissions must be double-blind: authors' names must not appear, and authors must make a good faith attempt to anonymize their submissions. Submitted papers must adhere to the formatting instructions of the ACM SIGPLAN style, which can found on the ACM template page. A sample Latex template using the correct ACM SIGPLAN style can be found at http://2018.middleware-conference.org/wp-content/uploads/middleware18-sample_latex.zip.
