http://macromarketing.org/?page_id=805 Violence, Exploitation and Servitude Track Violence, exploitation and servitude are intrinsic to capitalist modes of production and consumption. It is therefore imperative that we adequately represent and analyze their role in the market system. As such, the goal of this track is to call attention to and critique the neoliberal ideology that mask these issues, showing how market economies need violence, exploitation and servitude in order to function normally. Inspired by classical and contemporary theorists' studies of capitalist market systems (e.g. Agamben, Arendt, Badiou, Benjamin, Bourdieu, Foucault, Marx, Rancière, and Žižek), contributions to this track consider how violence, exploitation and servitude are (not) accounted for in our scholarship, as well as how they operate within the contexts we study. Ultimately, we contend that the vocabulary of violence effectively elucidates the constitution of capitalist markets and marketing, and thereby clarifies the parameters of our field. Contexts of particular interest may include: -sites of precarious labour; -the service sector and the modes of servitude; -forms of colonialism in international marketing; -the relationship between marketing and environmental degradation; -consumer exploitation and differing forms of violence; -the manipulation of markets through finance; -and structural phenomena such as labour control through unemployment.
